The figures here are spectators of the episode told by Ovid: “Justice punishing”. It depicts the sanction imposed by Jupiter on the Titans who tried to conquer the divine kingdom by piling up blocks of stone. This scene is one of a pair with “Justice Rewarding” which complements it. The two white squares are two pieces of Japan paper being used to locally maintain the pictorial layer that is peeling back, until it can be restored.
