Based on the provenance and Parton's residence in Yonkers, this may be a scene on the Ewing estate in Yonkers.Water lilies, quick dabs of color, close ups of trees—several features of this painting reflect Parton’s awareness of contemporary French styles of the Barbizon painters and Impressionists more closely than they do the American landscape manner practiced by two generations of artists steeped in the imagery of the Hudson River School.
