Over Koeweitse dinar
De dinar is de munteenheid van Koeweit. Eén dinar is duizend fils.
De volgende munten worden gebruikt: 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 en 100 fils. Het papiergeld is beschikbaar in ¼, ½, 1, 5, 10 en 20 dinar.
Vanaf de 8e eeuw werd Iraans en Iraaks geld gebruikt in het gebied van Koeweit. Toen in 1776 de handel van het Ottomaanse rijk over Koeweit werd gevoerd, hebben handelaars uit India zilveren roepies en gouden paisa's ingevoerd. Daarnaast werden er zelfs tot in 1960 zilveren en gouden munten als het Britse pond en de zilveren Maria Thereasa thalers gebruikt. In 1959 werd de tot dan toe belangrijkste munteenheid de Indiase roepie vervangen door de Perzische Golf-roepie in een verhouding van 1:1.
In 1961 werd de Koeweitse dinar geïntroduceerd met een gelijke waarde als het pond sterling. Vanaf 5 januari 2003 werd de wisselkoers vastgekoppeld aan de Amerikaanse dollar. Op 20 mei 2007 werd deze vervangen door een koppeling van een valutamandje waarmee het land belangrijke economische en financiële relaties heeft. The West African CFA franc is the currency used by eight independent states in West Africa which make up the West African Economic and Monetary Union: Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo. These eight countries had a combined population of 105.7 million people in 2014, and a combined GDP of US$128.6 billion as of 2018.
The initialism CFA stands for Communauté financière africaine. The currency is issued by the Central Bank of West African States, located in Dakar, Senegal, for the members of the UEMOA. The franc is nominally subdivided into 100 centimes but no coins or banknotes denominated in centimes have ever been issued. The production of CFA franc notes has been carried out at Chamalières by the Bank of France since its creation in 1945.
The Central African CFA franc is of equal value to the West African CFA franc, and is in circulation in several central African states. They are both commonly referred to as the CFA franc.
In December 2019 it was announced that the West African CFA franc would be reformed, which will include renaming it the eco and reducing France's role in the currency. Wikipedia
