US market summary
Disappointing jobs report sparks a market rally and eases rate hike fears
U.S. major stock indexes rallied at the end of the week after the September nonfarm payrolls report showed that employers added only 29,000 jobs, far below Wall Street's expectations. The weak labor market performance, combined with an uptick in the unemployment rate to 4.2%, led traders to drastically pare back bets that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates later in the month. While the Nasdaq posted a weekly gain on the news, the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average still finished the week lower.

Government bond yields ease from multi-decade highs following soft economic data
Treasury yields trended lower following the release of the weak September employment figures, taking pressure off rate-sensitive sectors. The 10-year U.S. Treasury note yield pulled back from an intraday peak of 5.344%, a level not seen since 2002. Although yields ultimately retraced some losses later in the day due to a recovery in oil prices, the soft wage growth and payroll downward revisions helped alleviate immediate fears of aggressive monetary tightening.

Emergency stockpile releases drag down crude oil and commodity prices
Crude oil futures ended the trading week down by 1.53% after G-7 and European nations reached an agreement to release 100 million barrels of crude and diesel from emergency reserves. This move countered upward price pressures stemming from ongoing Middle East conflicts involving Iran. Additionally, precious metals faced downward momentum, with gold and silver prices dropping 1.41% and 2.59% respectively over the course of the week.

Cryptocurrency market gains momentum as average investor profitability rises
The digital asset space showed positive performance with the Bitwise 10 Large Crypto Index climbing 3% over the week. Bitcoin advanced over 2% to trade around $86,041, positioning the asset well above estimated average investor cost bases ranging from $76,000 to $83,000. This increase in market profitability has been accompanied by a gradual rebuilding of leverage across crypto futures markets, though open interest remains below previous historical extremes.
