It was spun out of HCL Group in 1991 when HCL entered into the software services business. Founded by Shiv Nadar, the company maintains a presence in 60 countries, while it employs over 230,000 individuals. Additionally, it is the third-largest India-headquartered IT services company by revenue and market capitalization.
