Google Sites (classic) Program Policies

Note: These program policies apply to the classic version of Google Sites. The new version of Sites is not governed by these program policies and is instead governed by the Abuse program policies and enforcement of Google Drive.

All references to “Google Sites” and “Sites” below refer to classic Google Sites.

Welcome to Google Sites, a free service for you to communicate, connect, and collaborate with other users. We'd like to maintain an environment in which users are free to express their viewpoints and connect with others. In order to maintain this environment and ensure a positive user experience, we need to curb abuses that threaten our ability to provide this service and the freedom of expression that it encourages.

There are some boundaries on the type of content that can be hosted with Google Sites, which are explained in the policies below. From time to time, we may change our community standards, so please check back here.

To report a Google Site for violating one or more of our content policies below, click the Report Abuse link that appears at the bottom of every Sites page. Once you fill out the report and submit it, we will review the request and take action if appropriate.

To report illegal activity, please use this tool, which will guide you through the process of reporting content that you believe warrants removal from Google's services based on applicable laws. Completing this form will help ensure that we have all of the information necessary to investigate your specific inquiry and resolve it as quickly as possible.

Illegal Activities

Do not use our service to engage in illegal activities or promote dangerous and illegal acts.

Spam, Malware and Phishing:

Do not spam. Spam includes, but is not limited to, unwanted promotional, commercial or manipulative content that adds little value to users or to Google.

Do not transmit viruses, malware, or any other malicious or destructive code. Do not distribute content that harms or interferes with the operation of the networks, servers, or other infrastructure of Google or others.

Do not use our service for phishing scams.

Hate Speech

Our products are platforms for free expression. But we don't support content that promotes or condones violence against individuals or groups based on race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, nationality, veteran status, or sexual orientation/gender identity, or whose primary purpose is inciting hatred on the basis of these core characteristics. This can be a delicate balancing act, but if the primary purpose is to attack a protected group, the content crosses the line.

Personal and Confidential Information

Do not distribute other people’s personal and confidential information, such as credit card numbers, confidential national ID numbers, account passwords, or any other information that is not publicly accessible. Do not post or distribute private nude or sexually explicit images or videos without the subject’s consent. If someone has posted a private nude or sexually explicit image or video of you, please report it to us here. Do not post or distribute images or videos of minors without the necessary consent from their legal representatives. Report a violation. Keep in mind that in most cases, information that is already available elsewhere on the Internet or in public records is not considered to be private or confidential under our policies.

Child Exploitation

Do not upload or share content that exploits or abuses children. This includes all child sexual abuse imagery (even cartoon images) and all content that presents children in a sexual manner. We will remove such content and take appropriate action, which may include disabling accounts and reporting to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and law enforcement.

If you find any content that you think exploits children in this manner, do not comment on such content, even if your intent is to bring it to Google’s attention. Instead, flag the content through the ‘Report Abuse’ link. If you find content elsewhere on the internet, contact NCMEC directly.

Sexually Explicit Material

We do allow mature content on Sites, including images or videos that contain nudity or sexual activity. If your site contains mature content, please mark it as “mature” in your Sites settings.

We may also mark sites with mature content where the owners have not. All sites marked as mature will be placed behind a warning interstitial. If your site has a warning interstitial, do not attempt to circumvent or disable the interstitial.

There are some exceptions to our adult content policy:

Harassment, Bullying, and Threats

Do not engage in harassing, bullying, or threatening behavior, and do not incite others to engage in these activities. Anyone using our service to single someone out for malicious abuse, to threaten someone with serious harm, to sexualize a person in an unwanted way, or to harass in other ways may have the offending content removed or be permanently banned from using the service. In emergency situations, we may escalate imminent threats of serious harm to law enforcement. Keep in mind that online harassment is also illegal in many places and can have serious offline consequences for both the harasser and the victim.

Violence

Do not distribute depictions of graphic or gratuitous violence.

Impersonation

Do not mislead or confuse readers by pretending to be someone else or pretending to represent an organization when you don't. We're not saying you can't publish parody or satire - just avoid content that is likely to mislead readers about your true identity.

Regulated Goods and Services

Do not use Sites to sell or facilitate the sale of regulated goods and services, such as alcohol, gambling, pharmaceuticals and unapproved supplements, tobacco, fireworks, weapons, or health/medical devices.

Copyright

It is our policy to respond to clear notices of alleged copyright infringement. More information about our copyright procedures can be found on this page. Also, please don't provide links to sites where your readers can obtain unauthorized downloads of other people's content.
