Taiwan Silicon Research Program
Program description:
Taiwan is in a unique and strong position for the semiconductor industry around the world. We’ve seen the strong competency of those semiconductor and related manufacturing companies working with academics from the past years, generating world-class research and development outcomes. To support the silicon research ecosystem and the talent development in Taiwan, Google plans to launch the Taiwan Silicon Research Program which is currently designed for Taiwan only. Taiwan Silicon Research Program will include a portfolio of programs: research grants, Student Researcher, Visiting Researcher, GCP Credits, workshops/ conferences, etc. Among which, research grants will be the primary program. We also consider other efforts not included in current research program offerings, but those are based on the needs initiated from either Google or the universities.
Google teams, from both Taiwan and the global, will work with academic researchers from the universities in the following areas:
- General-purpose hardware for the mobile applications, Hardware/software acceleration architecture for computational photography
- High performance embedded processor design
- Video coding tools that apply ML in the new codec standard, no matter for legacy coding tools such as BlockPartition/MotionVector or whole new coding tools based on ML
- Advanced packaging
- SiP, Chiplet, Low-power/high-speed interface, Chiplet micro-architecture
- Silicon design methodologies
- ML for physical design, System-level simulation/emulation and early software development, Chiplet design methodologies, Chip/system power/thermal modeling
- Low power ML architectures
- Open source design software (IC)
We expect strong and tangible research results which match the needs from the universities as well Google. We are also looking forward to building up a research community around Silicon by rallying relevant academic research teams. We hope this program will be beneficial for Taiwan’s needs in forging world-class research on Silicon, developing talents to meet future demands, as well as supporting the semiconductor industry in the long run.
Eligibility
Google intends to work with full-time researchers from universities or degree-granting institutions by providing opportunities including research grants, conference sponsorship, GCP Credits, etc. The academic researchers must be working on Silicon related research areas.
