This invention relates to saw vises, and
the primary object is to provide a compact,
efiicient device which may be readily and inexpensively manufactured;

.My improved saw vise comprises in its main features a frame, adapted for application to a suitable supporting ineinber,"and having a fixed elongated jaw, a. movable jaw guided laterally in the end portions of the frame for movement toward and away from the fixed aw, and cam devices mount-- ed in the ends of the frame for clamping the movable j aw on the saw, or other work.
Referring to the drawing, 10 is a frame, composed of an elongated bar, having a downwardly projecting flange 11, adapted 'substantially U-shaped keeper portions let (Fig. 6), lying in a vertical plane, and presenting upper andlower guide surfaces 15, 16, for a movable `iaw 17. Extending upwardly and forwardly from the upper legs 14a of the keeper portions 14 are arch menr bers 18, located in vertical planes directly transversely to the keeper portions 14, and
thereof, and by'preference the forwardly `projecting arches 18 will likewise be cast integral with the keeper portions and frame. The lower ends of the arches 18 are connect ed preferably 1n an integral manner by `a :fixed jaw 19, located in alinement with the lguides 1n the keepers lll, and opposing `the jaw 17, which is movable in said keepers. lt will be noted that the fixed jaw 19 is outermost `with reference to the frame `10,

Extending rearwardly from each end of the frame are horizontal lugs 20, which form bearings `for a cam 21, whereby the movement of the corresponding end of the jaw 17 is controlled. ln the form shown, a vertical pin 22 connects each pair of lugs 20, and the cani` or eccentric 21 is rotatable about the pin 22 in a horizontal plane, and adapted to engage a surface 23 `at the rear edge of the extremity of the movable jaw. A rod 25 is secured to each cam for facilitating manipulation thereof by the operator.
Referring to Fig. 3, it will be noted that when the rods 25 extend toward each other, the cams at the respective ends of the vise are in position to release the movable jaw. This permits separation of the jawis by means of springs 26 interposed between the end lugs 27 on the jaw 17 and the rear faces of the respective keeper portions 11i, as shown in Fig. o. When the rods 25 are moved into the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3, the cam surfaces of the cams will force the movable jaw toward the fixed jaw by engagement of the cani surfaces wit-h the rear edge of the movable aw terminals.
r)The device is compact and easily portable, and the construction is quite simple, as it merely involves a main frame casting, a movable jaw, and simple but efficient jaw actuating means.
Without limiting myself to tion shown, I claim:
1. In a saw vise, the combination of a frame having upwardly and inwardly the constructurned guide portions at the ends, a jawA movable transversely of the frame and having its ends engaged with the respective guide portions, a second jaw, brackets exvtending forwardly from the upper parts of the respective guide portions, and supporting said second jaw rigidly in front of said movable jaw, and means for adjusting said movable j aw; Substantially as described.
2. In a saw vise, the combination of'a frame, guide portions on the respective ends 'b v said brackets, and located in front of said movable jaw, and means for adjusting the movable Jaw; substantially as described.
8. In a saw vise, the combination of an elongated frame, upwardly and inwardly turned guide portions at the respective ends of the frame, located in substantial paral-V lelism to the longitudinal axis of the frame, a jaw movable transversely of the frame, at the upper surface of the latter, and having at its respective ends upper guide surfaces engaging said guide portions, extensions on the respective ends of the movable jaw, facf ing the upright parts of the guide portions, springs interposed between the respective extensions and the respective upright parts of the guide portions, a fixed `jaw rigidly supported vfrom the frame, and means for adjusting the movable jaw relatively to the fixed jaw; substantially as described. y

A saw vise, comprising a frame having upwardly and inwardly turned keepers at the respective ends, brackets projecting forf wardly from said keepers, a fixed jaw, supported by and extending between said brack?
