Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. GINsBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tool-Holders. of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in lathe tools and the like and the principal object of the invention is to provide a device of this character with means for holding the cutter firmly against movement.
Another object of the invention is to provide simple and efficient means for holding the cutter in the holder, whereby the same can be adjusted.
Another object of the invention is to provide the holder with an oif-set portion, whereby the tool will cut close to the shoulder.
Another object is to make the tool with a cutting edge at each end thereof.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and eflicient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:

Fig. 6 is an end view of Fig. 1.
In these figures, 1 indicates the tool holder having an angularly projecting portion 2 and a head 3 connected to the portion 2 so that said head is out of the longitudinal plane of the part 1. This head extends at an angle as shown in Fig. l and is provided with a slot 4 provided with teeth 5 and an elongated slot 6. 7 is the cutter provided with a cutting edge at each end thereof and with a projecting portion 8 fitting into the slot at and provided with teeth for engaging with the teeth 5 in the bottom of the recess 4. The cutter is held in place by means of the bolt 9 passing through the slot 6 and having screw threaded engagement with the cutter.
By this arrangement, the cutter is firmly held in the desired position by means of the bolt 9 and the teeth. Furthermore, the cutter can be easily removed without taking the holder from the lathe so as to be sharp ened and as both ends of the cutter are provided with cutting edges when the cutter at one end is worn the cutter may be reversed so as to use the other end.
In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the invention is shown applied to the well known type of spring holder, the spring being provided by means of the slots 10 in the head and the amount of movement of the spring head being controlled by means of the screws 11. The front end of the head is provided with graduations, as shown at 12, to mark the place which the cutter occupies so that the cutter can be placed in the same position after it has been removed for grinding.
The operation of this tool will be clearly understood by those skilled in the art, and it is of special value in the cutting of the threads on taps, as the cutter can be removed and sharpened and replaced accurately, without removing the holder from its fixed position in the machine.
It is thought from the foregoing that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
