The operation of the device is as follows:

In an adjustable work support for lathes the combination of a bracket attached to the bed, a block, having a bore forming a seat, slidably mounted on the bracket, a crank shaft mounted 011 theblock, a gear on the crank shaft, a crank, a shaft attached to on the bed, a block slidably mounted on the bracket, a crank shaft mounted on the block,
a link engaging the crank shaft, a slide pivotally attached to the crank shaft, a rest having a way formed in it adapted to accommodate the slide and to permit the slide'to reciprocate therein and comprising arms, pivots connecting the arms to the carriage, means to lock the'rest to the slide, and a roller adapted to engage the work, and a block adj ustably mounted on the rest having a bearing adapted to engage the work.
7. In an adjustable work support for lathes, the combination with a rest adapted to engage the work, of a block, a crank shaft mounted on the block, a link mounted onthe crank shaft,'a pivot connecting the link to the rest, means to revolve the crank shaft and to move the rest'into engagement with the WOIk, and. an adjustable bolt adapted to bind the rest to the block thereby prevent ing continued rotation of the crank shaft due to the thrust upon-the link and the pivot.
8. In a work support for lathes the combination of a rest pivotally mounted on the carriage adapted to engage the work, a slide pivotally mounted on the carriage controlling the rest, and means to control the slide.
9. In a work support for lathes the combi nation of arest pivotally mounted on the, lathe adapted to engage the work, a slide pivotally mounted on the lathe controlling the rest, and means to move the rest and slide about their pivotal mountings whereby,
the restis moved in and out of engagement with the work.
10. In a work support for lathes the combination of a rest adapted to engage the work, a slide engaging the rest and being capable of movement longitudinal of itself, a pivot mounting one end of the slide upon the lathe, a second pivot spaced from the first mentioned pivot and mounting the rest upon the lathe, means to actuate the slide about its pivotal mounting, whereby the slide is moved longitudinally over the rest, thereby moving the rest into and from engagement with the work, and means controlling the movement of the slide.
