w. MOORE & J. w. PARKER.
LATHE DOG.
No. 486,166. Patented Nov. 15, 1892.
M uul UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM MOORE AND JOHN WILLIAM PARKER, OF OWOSSO, MICHIGAN.
LATHE-DOG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 486,166, dated November 15, 1892.
Application filed March 2, 1892. Serial No. 423,455- (No model.)
T0 to whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM MOORE and J OHNWILLIAM PARKER, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Owosso, in the county of Shiawassee and State of Michigan, haveinvented certain new and usefullmprovements in Lathe-Dogs, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
Our invention relates to lathe-dogs and belongs to the class used for turning'bolts and where other square forms are to be secured in a lathe; and itconsists in adj ustably connecting one jaw of the dog with the other in the manner hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the manner of connecting the jaws. Fig. 2 is a plan view showing the manner of securing the jaws after they have been adjusted.
In the drawings, A indicates a movable jaw provided on one side with a suitable extension B and a downwardly-extending part f, the part f being grooved to fit a projection e on the attaching-plate A and forming a guide for the jaw. The extension .B is provided with a groove g, which fits a stud c on the fixed jaw B. One face of the extension B and the vertical portion of the jaw Bare serrated and adapted to mesh with each other when closed by the nut h, which fits a thread on the end of the stud c. To adjust the dog to fit work Varying in size, the nut 71. is turned until the part B of the jaw A can be disengaged from its mesh with the fixed jaw B, 5 when it is moved to or from said jaw, according to the size of the work to be done, when the nut his again set and the jawA is secured at the desired point, as before.
Having thus described our invention, what 0 we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A lathe-dog consisting of the attachingplate A, having on one edge a projection e and an integral jaw B, one part of said jaw 5 being at right angles to said plate and provided with a serrated side and the other part extending parallel to the plane of the plate, in combination with a movable jaw A, having a grooved part f and a serrated and slot- 50 ted arm B, whereby said movable jaw is made adjustable and adapted to co-operate with the fixed jaw and to be secured thereto, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof we affix oursignatures 5 5 in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM MOORE. JOHN WILLIAM PARKER.
