Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
This invention relates to a new and improved clamp for holding saws while being sharpened or filed.
rI he object of" the invention is to obtain a simple and cheap implement for the purpose specied, and one which may be very readily manipulated.
The implement or device is composed of two parts, A A', which may be termed frames," and they are ot' right-angular form, the lower parts, a, being ot' Vshape, and the upper parts being each composed of two uprights, b b, connected at their upper ends by bars B B', which serve as jaws to clamp the saw-blade.
The part A, at its bend or angle at each side, is provided with a lateral projecting pin, c, and the other part, A', is provided at each side, at corresponding points, with a hook-projection, c' and these projections are fitted over the pins c, on which they work as fulcra. (See Fig. l.)
On the rear of the part or frame A' of the device there is fitted a cam, O, provided with a handle or lever, D, said cam bearing or working against the rear of the frame A.
The jaws B B are opened and closed by operating the cam C. Vhen the handle or lever D is shoved or drawn toward the jaws B B', as indicated in red, Fig. 1, the jaws B B' will be closed so as to clamp lrmly the sawblade, and when said handle or lever is moved in the opposite direction the jaws will be opened, as shown in black.
The two parts or frames A A' may each be cast in one piece and adjusted together with out any trouble or work whatever.
The cam and handle may be of wrought or malleable cast-iron.
rlhe expense of manufacture., it will be seen, will be extremely small.
The frame A may be cast with a cross-bar, I
a', havinga hole in it for a screw to pass through in order to secure the device to any fixture.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The construction and arrangement of the frames A A', jaws B B', hook-projections c', pins c, cam O, and lever D, in the manner herein described and represented.
