v Beit known that I, A. M. OLiJS, of the city, county, and State of NewYork, have invented a new and useful Improved Self-Adjusting lVrench; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of theconstruction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this speciication. l 4 y K Figure I is a side view, showing the wrench with the movable, self-adjusting arm b closed.
Figure II is a back view, showing the shape of the arm vb and the way in which it is mortised into the handle. I Y
Figure III is a side view, withvthe movable arm Z extended to the utmost.l
In these iigures, a is the handle; '6, the movable self-adjustingarm, constructed so that its inside surface shall form two fnll sides and one fractional sideof a square, having a tongue at onegend tot into a mortise in thehandle; and e is an extended curved arm, forming an extension of the handle and cast in the same piece, having about half of its upper surface corrugated. d is a pin or pivot passing through bot-h sides of the mortise in the handle and throughthe tonguel on the arm b.
v Constructionan Operation.
The wrench may be constructed of any size, care being taken to proportion the parts so that when put together the distancesfrom the-pin dto the extremity of the curved arm o and to the extremity ofthe short side of the movable arm b'may be equal, and may be applied to any mit of a size equal to or smaller than the squarerformng the inside of the 'arm b. The arm Z'being adjusted so that its 'short and upper sides are in contact with two sides of the nut to'be turned, the handle ci is moved so as to bring the curved arm c in contact with a third side of the nut, which is thus held iirmly with a' grip increasing in proportion to the force applied .to the handle and necessary to turn it.
' I claim the above-described wrench as an improved article of manufacture.
