Abstract

An objective of the present invention is to provide a method and apparatus for charging a user equipment implemented at a DCCA client upon OCS charging failure. The DCCA client detects whether a first trigger condition for assigning virtual quota information to a user equipment is met; when the first trigger condition is met, the DCCA client assigns virtual quota information corresponding to the first trigger condition to the user equipment; the DCCA client sends an offline charging request corresponding to the user equipment to a corresponding OFCS; the OFCS détermines offline charging information of the user equipment based on the virtual quota usage information; the OFCS sends the offline charging information to the corresponding OCS, so as to be available for the OCS to charge the user equipment. Compared with the prior art, when an on-going user session suffers System failure, a network élément or a DCCA client may continue providing services to the user equipment based on the novel failure handling mechanism according to the présent invention. Once the online charging System résumes normal, the UE usage during the OCS failure process may be charged.
