May 31, 2008 - Some Googling tells me that hdax represents IDE drives, whereas sdax represents SCSI or SATA devices. All of my partitions show up as sd_x in GParted (but my first two disks are IDE, the third is an external flash drive). I am dual booting Arch with Gentoo, so my /boot layout is a little different. ... I really don't want to reference my disks via sda* as it just makes no sense. ... You just have to type /dev/sda instead of /dev/hda. pjv. generally as mentioned, the only difference between a hda and sda is the type of hard disk you have on your box (ide or scsi). while the number following it like hda1 is the partition.
