Dec 2, 2011 - The best you'll get out of an HDD right now is 150 MB/s. The maximum speed of transfer of an SSD is 600 MB/s, as that is the max speed of a SATA3 connection. They are usually slower than this though. The maximum speed of transfer of DDR3-800 RAM is 6400 MB/s (so the slowest DDR3 RAM around).

Oct 19, 2014 - If you really have enough RAM to not need swap, then issue: /sbin/swapoff -a. This will remove all swap from the system, move any useful data to RAM and then prevent the system from using it. This, of course, comes with consequences but that will become evident if you don't have enough RAM.

Jan 28, 2014 - up vote 1 down vote accepted. Your system has only 1 GB of RAM, which is fully used. In addition, you have 3 GB of swap, which will be userd by your system once it needs to free RAM for something. Your system probably is slow because it has to swap files from the (fast) RAM to the (slow) hard disk where ...

Oct 21, 2010 - Though there comes a problem when i open the app i have been using before. It takes time to load its state as the SD is much more slower than the high speed RAM on board. If there isn't enough room in memory for all the information the CPU needs, the computer has to set up what's known as a virtual memory file. In so doing, the CPU reserves space on the hard disk to simulate additional RAM. This process, referred to as "swapping", slows the system down. In an average computer, it takes the ...

Oct 28, 2010 - Check the CPU when you're using 75% of your RAM and see what it is at. RAM shouldn't impact speed unless you're using a lot of swap/virtual memory or your applications aren't managing the memory properly. The slowdown can also be caused by high disk IO. What are you normally doing when you ...

Jun 19, 2014 - You have a very common misconception that swapping makes your system slow. If that was true, nobody would swap. Your operating system is smart enough to only swap where that provides a benefit. The tiny amount of swapping you're seeing is memory that likely has never been accessed and, believe ...
