Do you have to book Hastings Caves?
Bookings for cave tours will be taken by phone, with payment by credit card. Numbers are currently limited to 8 people per tour. For current opening and tour times, check the Parks and Wildlife Services Website. Hastings Caves can be contacted on 03 6298 3209.
How many steps are in Hastings caves?
The cave is spacious and there are no narrow passages. The light level is low. There are 250 stairs each way, equipped with handrails. Opening hours and cave tour times vary throughout the year, so we recommend you check times on the Parks and Wildlife Service website before you embark on your journey.
How old is Hastings Cave?
The caverns at Newdegate Cave began forming about 40 million years ago. They were only discovered in 1917 however, when timber workers stumbled upon the cave entrance. The cave was named after the Governor of Tasmania at the time, Francis Newdegate.
Is Hastings Caves dog friendly?
Dogs are not allowed in the Reserve or Caves. Light takeaway snacks, coffee and souvenirs are available at the Visitor Centre.
