The Nine Network's flagship morning program has hit record low ratings since Stefanovic was dumped in 2018 after 15 years. His sacking followed a difficult year in which the show's ratings were already falling amid unrelenting coverage of his divorce from Cassandra Thorburn and remarriage to designer Jasmine Yarbrough.

In December, Nine, the owner of this masthead, removed Stefanovic from Today after months of negative publicity about his divorce from Cassandra Thorburn - and his subsequent marriage to Jasmine Yarbrough - threatened to overshadow the program. Stefanovic said the “unwarranted attention” had taken its toll.

Stefanovic was born in Darlinghurst, New South Wales to a Serbian-German father and an Australian mother. Stefanovic is the third of four children to mother Jenny. His siblings include former co-host of Today, Karl Stefanovic, an older sister, and a younger brother Tom, who is a former cameraman for Nine News.
