Green Lynx Spider egg sacs are spherical and about the size of a marble. The female spider carefully creates the sac from silk and attaches it firmly to a branch or twig (blade of grass). She then lays up to 200 eggs inside the sac and guards it fiercely until the spiderlings hatch.

Green Lynx Spiders have an annual life cycle, at least in the United States. Eggs are laid in fall and hatch in a few weeks. The spiderlings overwinter on the ground in leaf litter, and climb into the vegetation in spring. They grow and mature through the summer, and mate in late summer or early fall.

The Green Lynx Spider preys on beneficial bugs like butterflies, honeybees, pollinating flies wasps and other nectaring insects, including many that are larger than itself.

Distribution and Habitat This spider, which is a member of a spider family that is mostly tropical, is found in southern United States from coast to coast, and also in Mexico and Central America. It often lives in clumps of prickly pear cactus.
