Green lynx spiders are non-poisonous and rarely bite humans but the bite can be painful. Females, when threatened, are known to spit venom from their fangs (up to 8 inches). If the venom enters the eye, it may or may not cause irritation. How can anyone be afraid of this spidey face?

The green lynx spider is a big, bright green ghost of the garden, often fading into the foliage and flowers as it prowls for insects. It lives across most of the southern U.S. from coast to coast, as well as Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.

Despite the unusual appearance and occasional aggressive behavior of this spider, envenomation caused only local pain, pruritis, erythema, and induration. No local necrosis or systemic symptoms occurred. Treatment included tetanus immunization, wound care, and symptomatic therapy.

The green lynxes, like other Oxyopidae, are diurnal hunting spiders which run over low shrubs and herbs with great agility, leaping from place to place with a precision excelled only by the true jumping spiders.
