More Information

GSAn > Network Diagnostics

Use the GSAn > Network Diagnostics page to review the topology within a mirroring configuration and diagnostic information about connections within distributed crawling and serving and GSA mirroring environments. This page is intended primarily for reporting topology and status within the configurations to Google Enterprise Technical Support. You can see this page on the Admin Console only if you use the distributed crawling or GSA mirroring features.

The network diagnostics page is not automatically refreshed after all processing is complete when you click Apply Configuration on the distributed crawling and serving or GSA mirroring pages. Wait two minutes, then refresh the browser by clicking its Refresh button. You should see green indicators at that time.

The Network Diagnostics page displays a table listing all nodes and their roles in GSA mirroring or distributed crawling and serving configurations, as follows:

Primaries Replicas
Non-replica nodes in a mirroring configuration and the master node in a distributed crawling and serving configuration.
Nodes in a mirroring configuration that duplicate a primary node.

The Network Diagnostics page displays a table listing each node in a distributed crawling and GSA mirroring environment and its status with respect to several different modes of connection required for distributed crawling and GSA mirroring to operate correctly, as follows:

Network Diagnostics table
Node Ping Status Tunnel Connection Status Application Connection Status
Host names of nodes If the indicator is green, the node responds to a ping. If the indicator is red, the node is not responding to a ping. If the indicator is green, an tunnel connection could be established. If the indicator is red, an tunnel connection could not be established If the indicator is green, the other nodes in the configuration are able to communicate with this node. If the indicator is red, the other nodes in the configuration cannot communicate with this node.

When GSA mirroring and distributed crawling are working correctly, all indicators are green. If any of the indicators are not green and you are unsure of why, contact Google Enterprise Technical Support for assistance in diagnosing and fixing the problems.

The following table provides further information on tunnel connection status.

Error Message Displayed on Admin Console Reason for Error Message How to Correct the Error
Tunnel didn't start. Tunnel process was unable to start. Contact Google Enterprise Technical Support.
Certificate Verification Failed: Not signed by any of the trusted CAs. Unsigned certificate. Replace the certificate with a signed certificate.
Certificate Verification Failed: Using an expired certificate. Expired certificate. Replace the certificate with an unexpired certificate.
Certificate Verification Failed: Using a revoked certificate. Revoked certificate. Replace the certificate with a valid certificate.
Certificate Verification Failed: The presented certificate is signed by a CA whose CRL has expired. Please update the CRL. Expired Certificate Revocation List (CRL). Update the CRL.

The GSA mirroring feature includes diagnostic information specific to the feature. The diagnostic information is displayed under Admin Console > GSAn > Diagnostics on the primary node only. If you try to access the page on a mirror node, you see only the connection status of nodes on the GSAn network.

The following table describes the diagnostic information.

Label Explanation
Node Google Search Appliance host name.
Peer Status Shows the current status of the multibox configuration: Config Sync, UP, or DOWN for Master; Non-Master (Distributed Crawling) Setup and N/A for Master-Replica (Mirroring) Setup.
Current Time The current date and time, for example: 2011/02/17 11:35.
Last Config Sync Completed The date and time when the administrative configuration was most recently synchronized from the primary node to the replica nodes; for example, 2010/01/08 16:46.
Serving Index Creation Time The date and time when the currently-serving search index was created; for example, 2010/01/08 16:41.
Serving Index Sync Completion Time The date and time when the currently-serving index on a node was synchronized; for example, 2010/01/08 16:42.
Serving Index Sync Time The amount of time it took for the currently-serving index to be completely synchronized from the primary to the replica nodes; for example, 0h 30m.
Syncing Index Creation Time The date and time when the index that is currently being syncrhonized was created; for example, 2010/01/10/17:14.
Syncing Index Transfer Progress The percentage of the current synchronization process that is completed; for example, 16%.
Syncing Index Transfer Speed The transfer speed of the current synchronization process, in kilobytes per second; for example, 801 KB/sec.
Syncing Index Estimated Completion Time The estimated total amount of time required to complete the current synchronization process; for example, 0h 42 m. This estimate is based on the transfer speed and not on the current progress. It represents an estimate of how long the full synchronization process will take, not the remaining time before the process is complete. To calculate the time to completion, use the formula ((100% - transfer_progress) * estimated_completion_time) / 100, substituting the displayed values for transfer_progress and estimated_completiontime.
