ISIS Claims Responsibility For Killing Cop in Jammu And Kashmir

New Delhi, Feb 27: Terror group Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for an attack on Jammu and Kashmir police cop in Srinagar. The cop was guarding the residence of Hurriyat leader Fazal Haq Qureshi on Sunday when he was killed by militants in Soura area of Srinagar. The militants fled with his rifle.

ISIS news agency Al Amag claimed that they assassinated an element of police in firing. In the last three months this is the second instance that ISIS has claimed responsibility for attack on policemen.

Sources in Jammu and Kashmir police told Indian Express that there were apprehensions that militant Esa Fazili might have defected to the Islamic State, and the ISIS claiming responsibility for the attack gave credence to this theory.Sources added responsibility for the attack was first taken by the IS on a Telegram channel.

Esa Fazili was an engineering student at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah (BGSB) University in Rajouri when he decided to join the militants in August last year. He had joined Zakir Musa’s faction, but after the former decided to float a new group Ansar Ghazwatul Hind, he broke away. It is reported that he is being influenced by Islamic State.
