This place is a disgusting shithole.
I rolled into Dubuque late at night. The first room I was given smelled horrendously of cigarette smoke, so badly that my eyes started watering within seconds of entering the room. I went back down to the front desk and requested a new room. The guy started doing some things on the computer, then another employee walked in and they started speaking in Russian or some other Cyrillic language for several seconds. Kind of weird, because the second guy had greeted me when I first arrived, and he seemed perfectly fluent in English. It just seemed weird that two people who both seemed fluent in English would switch, discuss something, and then the first guy completed the discussion with me in English. The second guy, the one who had originally greeted, had red eyes and looked high AF. Just a really bizarre experience.
I got to my second room and immediately noted that it sounded like a window was open. I checked, and it was. There was a faint smell of cigarette smoke in the room, and I am fairly certain that this window was left open to dissipate the smell. I turned on the lights and noticed that the placard on the phone was yellow with nicotine stain. Wtf? This is a fairly modern looking hotel. Certainly renovated not very long ago. What modern hotel has nicotine stains? Then I needed to use the toilet, and discovered that the bathroom stank horribly of cigarette smoke. Like someone had been smoking in there immediately before I entered the room. And it still stank just as strongly in the morning when I woke up. I think someone had been smoking in the bathroom with the exhaust fan on, thinking that it would magically make the stink not go everywhere else.
I went downstairs for breakfast and there were biscuits on the hot food display. Just biscuits. No eggs, no bacon or sausage or anything else for hot food. I grabbed a biscuit and some jelly. I went to get a glass of orange juice, and the machine just discharged water. This was at 7:00, and breakfast hours start at 6:30. It's not like I got down to the breakfast area right at the beginning of breakfast and they hadn't had time yet to bring the rest of the food out or restock the juice machine with concentrate mix.
If you're traveling into Dubuque, avoid this place. It smells bad, the breakfast is literally just biscuits, and you can't even get a glass of orange juice to wash down your biscuit.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Steven Isaac R.Yellow Springs, OH012Feb 4, 2024
Stayed here 2 years ago and there were BED BUGS. Staying here again tonight, thinking surely you don't have a bed bug infestation that lasts 2 years.....and here we are again. Just had to move rooms again. The front desk was actually accommodating this time. On top of the bed bug issue, this place is crusty and dirty and there are stains everywhere and the hallways smell. Someone honestly needs to seek legal action against this place, but I ain't got the time.

The room is nasty stains all over the carpet rooms with missing door knobs. Broken exercise equipment. Dirty pillowcases. Just old no TLC. Management and house keeping don't CARE!!!!!! this place is more like motel 6 easy 8 or the travel lodge

Hotel called to say they overbooked & had no rooms for us. They said they would call us back to help find a room but we never heard from them again. We found our own room at a different hotel chain.

The hotel was clean and the staff friendly! The breakfast was hot and delicious. Bathrooms nice. We didn't make it in the pool, but the pool area was clean. Our room was nice and cold on a hot summer day! Literally our only issue was a squeaky door near us! Lol I would stay here again. Not a bad drive to the field of dreams!

We enjoyed our stay at this safe Holiday Inn location in Dubuque Iowa. It was a nice centralized location to many shops, bars, restaurants and even a Casino.
Hotel was overall extremely clean, rooms were also extremely clean, which is our #1 priority always. So hats are off to your cleaning staff and management for that. Front desk workers were extremely kind and helpful explaining the surrounding area. We would definitely stay again if ever visiting the area.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tami C.Davenport, IA0111Sep 8, 2021
I had a reservation at another hotel but their pool was closed for maintenance. This hotel looks wonderful on the website so I cancelled my other reservation and booked a room here. This hotel looks nothing like the site. It is very dirty. The sheets in the room had crumbs on them, there were stains all over the place and there was a terrible smell by the vending machines. The pool had multiple clumps of hair floating in it and the whirlpool was so filthy that I wouldn't get in it. Every time we tried to reach the front desk no one answered. And, getting towels was a huge hassle. I paid more to stay here and was incredibly disappointed.

Not a good place to stay. We usually stay at holiday inn express when we travel. This an older motel. Air conditioning not efficient. Not pleasant in July heat. Fire alarm goes off at 11:30 and we evacuate premise
Appears to be a false alarm, thankfully. I suggest staying somewhere else.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Live V.Nashville, TN01713Jul 30, 2019
What an awesome experience. I mean they even had warm cookies out when we arrived! Absolutely loved our stay here. We are a touring band and see a lot of hotels. This one stood out for its cleanliness and modern updates. The pool and gym area are fantastic. Continental breakfast is wonderful in the morning. Our rooms were comfy and clean. What more could we ask for?

Room was clean, staff was friendly.
I feel like the breakfast could have been better but was decent.
Cons- sleeping was difficult, I could hear doors opening and closing, people walking above, and even people talking in the next room.
Pool was great but no one there to have people follow the rules, so there were people drinking and not really watching their kids while they were misbehaving.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
