These campsites are not very large and will only accommodate tents or trailers around 15 ft max. Other than that this, it is an awesome place to camp. All the loops are short and campsites are conveniently spaced apart. Bathrooms and garbage cans are very centralized to all campsites. The bathrooms are pit toilets but probably the cleanest I've ever seen. Instead of smelling like feces they smell like bleach. This camp ground puts you conveniently near the Wheeler Peak trailhead for early access. This is quite convenient if not all people in your party are hiking. There are no showering facilities at this campground and water was unavailable. Plan accordingly.

Remodeled in 2021, this Campground has now 37 site, previously 8 (I think). Other big difference: they can all be booked on recreation.gov, no more first come first serve. Don't despair if you don't have a reservation, at Lehman Caves visitor center they sell same day empty site, if any of if there was a cancelation.
Try to take a site number larger than 6, these have more traffic.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 7, 2008First to Review
We stayed at Wheeler Peak Campground for 2 nights while visiting Great Basin National Park in Nevada. We do camping because it's Cheap.
They have 37 campsites, No Reservations-it's First come, First Serve, elevation is 9,886 ft, and $12 per site per night. We stayed here to get acclimated for our Wheeler Peak hike the next day which really helped a bit. Still we all got headaches the first day.
There's water available, vaulted toilets, picnic tables, campfire grills, but NO Showers.
Quiet period 10p-6a.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 16, 2012
Wheeler is one of four campgrounds at Great Basin National Park and it's the highest one, too. You'll have a really long drive up the mountain to this campground but it's helpful to be near the hiking trails for a good early morning start.

Very quiet and and the highest campsite. I didn't like that they had no showers, and terrible toilets but was grateful they had water (not potable). Also no ranger on site? No wood on site so make sure to bring some up.
