CASPER, Wyo. — The Bureau of Land Management Casper Field Office is offering some free firewood on Muddy Mountain.

“Muddy Mountain Road will be opened specifically for firewood gathering from 12 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 4, and Friday, June 5,” The Casper BLM office says. “Starting at noon on Saturday, June 6, the remaining wood will be piled near the entrance of the campgrounds and available for gathering until gone.”

The firewood is available at the Rim and Lodgepole campgrounds on Muddy Mountain. The firewood comes from trees that were cut down during recent thinning projects at the campgrounds, the BLM says.

“The BLM is offering the firewood free-of-charge and on a first-come first-served basis in order to prepare the campgrounds for reopening,” the release states. “No permit is needed. The wood is already cut and stacked, but further cutting is not allowed within the campground.”

“The wood being offered is specific to BLM-administered lands within the campground. While there is no restriction on how much firewood can be taken, though we are restricting collection to non-commercial use.”

Rim and Lodgepole campgrounds are still closed for camping and day use.

“However, we expect the campgrounds to fully open soon,” the release adds.
