Comex 2016 - It's time to buy, buy, buy again!

Happening from September 8 to 11 at Suntec Singapore Levels 3, 4, and 6, Comex is the place to be at if you want to fulfill your home entertainment, lifestyle electronics, office equipment, and travel technology shopping needs. From the same folks who brought you IT Shows, Comex 2016 officially opens from 11am for Level 3, and 12pm for Level 4 and 6 until 9pm each day. As always, admission is free.

Other than going from booth to booth looking for deals, there are a lot of other activities you can take part in at the tech show, including checking out the latest gadgets at the Tech Showcase area, trying out some new games at the Gamex zone. You can also take part in the Booth Babes Selfie Contest to stand a chance to win a total of S$1,000 in cash. For more details on the various activities at Comex 2016, check out this article.

PC Dreams is also back at Comex to handle the trade-in process. So if you've old laptops, tablets, smartphones, PCs (non-DIY ones), monitors, and TVs lying around, you might want to trade them in to help finance your Comex spending. Now without further ado, here are the hottest products and deals that caught our attention at the show floors.

Acer

The Acer Switch Alpha 2-in-1 convertible notebook features a 12-inch, 10-point touchscreen display, with a resolution of 2,160 x 1,440 pixels. Its marquee feature is the Acer LiquidLoop cooling technology sans active cooling fans. The device is powered by either an Intel “Skylake” Core i7-6500U mobile CPU or an Intel Core i5-6200U chip, coupled with 8GB of LPDDR3 RAM. The storage options include either a 256- or a 512GB SSD. There’s a single USB 3.1 Gen 1, Type-C reversible port that will allow connectivity of up to 5Gbps for supported devices. The Acer Switch Alpha weighs about 1.2kg (with keyboard), and boasts of a battery life of up to 8 hours! It is priced from $1,498 (from U.P. $1,698).

The 13.3-inch Acer Aspire S 13 notebook is another perennial show favorite; it’s powered by either a Intel Core i5-6200U or Core i7-6500U processor, with 8GB of LPDDR3 RAM. Its LED TFT display has a maximum resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, and comes in two variants; one that supports 10-point, multi-touch capabilities, and one that doesn’t. It sports a 512 SSD for storage, and has a Type-C USB 3.1 Gen 1 port for connectivity. It comes in two colors; obsidian black and white. The black variant features non-touchscreen display, and has a show price of $1,398 (U.P. $1,598), and the white model has the touchscreen display, and it retails at $1,498 (U.P. $1,698)
The Acer Predator G9 is a 15.6-inch gaming notebook with an Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and a 128GB SSD and 1TB HDD. It may not come with one of NVIDIA’s new 10-series cards, but it still packs a GeForce GTX 970M, which is fairly decent in its own right, especially given its 1,920 x 1,080-pixel display. It is backed by a three-year warranty, and you can get it at $2,698, down from $3,898 usually. In addition, you’ll get a free Predator gaming backpack and a SteelSeries mouse and mousepad.

AC Ryan

This funky looking box is the Veolo 4K+, a new UHD media player from AC Ryan. Powered by a Cortex A53 quad-core 2GHz processor with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, it's capable of true 4K decoding. It also sports 3 USB ports. Going for $199 (U.P: $299) and you get a free Veo Navigator. First 50 Citi cardmembers also get a $10 AC Ryan voucher.

Aftershock

For those looking for an affordable gaming desktop, the Aftershock Zeal may be right up your alley. It is powered by an Intel Core i5-6500 processor, 8GB of DDR4 RAM, and a Zotac GeForce GTX 1060 3GB card. You’ll also get a free upgrade to a 120GB SSD and 1TB Toshiba HDD, and a copy of anti-virus software. It is selling at just $1,376, down from $1,475 usually.
The Aftershock S-15 is one of the company’s most popular options, and for good reason. The S-15 has been updated with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card, and features an Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and a 120GB SSD and 1TB HDD. The 15.6-inch IPS display has a modest resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, which is hardly a challenge for the GeForce GTX 1070. It can be yours for just $2,665, down from $3,033 usually. Aftershock is bundling it with a bunch of freebies as well, including a professional color calibration service, an Aftershock M7 gaming headset, and a Paragon Game Ready pack.
Then there’s the workstation-class Aftershock W-17s, which will tear through pretty much anything you throw at it. It features a desktop Intel Core i7-6700K processor, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 card. For storage, it has a 120GB SSD and 1TB HDD. The 17.3-inch 1,920 x 1,080-pixel IPS display even supports NVIDIA G-Sync for a smoother gaming experience. You can get it for $3,980, or over $300 off its usual $4,338 price tag. It also comes with a free anti-virus software, a professional color calibration service, an Aftershock M7 gaming headset, and a Paragon Game Ready pack.

Alienware / Dell

The Alienware Aurora R5 can be configured with a wide range of the most powerful graphics options available on the market today. The starting configuration comes with an Intel Core i7-6700 processor, 16GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070, and a 1TB HDD. It comes with a pre-installed one-year subscription to McAfee LiveSafe as well. It costs $2,699, but for $3,999 and $4,999, you’ll be able to upgrade to either an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 or 1080 SLI respectively (and also 32GB of RAM and more storage).
On the notebook front, there’s the Alienware 15, which comes equipped with an Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor, 8GB of memory, and a 1TB HDD. Alienware recently refreshed its 13- to 17-inch notebook line-up, so this is a chance to pick up a previous generation notebook more cheaply. The Alienware 15 comes with one-year of premium support that includes on-site service and accidental damage coverage, in addition to a one-year McAfee LiveSafe subscription and free Alienware Vindicator backpack. It costs $1,999, compared to $2,299 usually.
The Dell Inspiron 3000, priced at $799, features an Intel Core i5-6400 “Skylake” CPU, with 4GB of system memory. Its discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT 705 graphics card offers video connectivity options of a dual-link DVI-I port, a HDMI connector, and a D-Sub port. Do note the maximum resolution supported by the card maxes out at 2,560 x 1,080 pixels; however, the Dell system doesn’t come with a bundled display. It does come with a 1-year subscription to McAfee LiveSafe, and a 1-year InHome Service.
The Dell Inspiron 13 5000 2-in-1 convertible features a 13.3-inch FHD touchscreen. It sports a 6th-gen Intel Core i5-6200U processor, with 8GB of system memory. Its 1TB HDD handles storage while its graphics processing is handled by the CPU’s onboard Intel HD Graphics 520 graphics core. It is priced at $1,099 (U.P. $1,199), and comes with a 1-year ProSupport warranty.
The ever popular Dell XPS 13 ultrabook features an Intel Core i5-6560U processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD. The touchscreen, 13.3-inch, edge-to-edge display has a max resolution of 3,200 x 1,800 pixels; there’s also another variant with a non- touchscreen display. The Dell XPS 13 is going for $2,299, with a 1-year ProSupport warranty and  accidental damage coverage. Other free gifts include a 1-year subscription to McAfee LiveSafe, a wireless Bluetooth speaker, and a Dell Type-C to VGA adapter.

In addition, you’ll receive a one-year anti-virus subscription, an ROG gaming headset and hoodie, a mouse, and a backpack. ASUS is also throwing in $115 of in-game value in Paragon, Epic Games’ new MOBA game.
If you’ve got your eye on a compact gaming desktop, there’s always the ASUS ROG G20, which comes equipped with NVIDIA’s new GeForce GTX 1070 Pascal GPU. It features an Intel Core i7-6700 processor, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and a 256GB SSD and 2TB HDD. That’s plenty of power in a 9.5L chassis, and for $2,598, you can get it with a free ROG hoodie, a copy of World of Warships, and six months of Data Shield protection. It also comes bundled with a backlit keyboard and mouse.

Launched at Comex today, the ASUS notebook is priced from $1,498, and it features processors from the 6th-gen “Skylake” Intel Core series; an Intel Core i7-6500U, or a Core i5-6200 chip. The notebook supports up to 8GB of SDRAM, for its display, the widescreen IPS LED screen comes in two different screen resolutions; 3,200 x 1,800 pixels (QHD+), and 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (FHD). Its storage needs will be handed by its 512GB SSD. It will cost $2,199. As a show special, you will receive a LG laptop sleeve and a Sound360 bluetooth speaker. Nikon’s D3300 is one of their star buys of this show, and the 24.2MP DX format camera is being sold as a twin lens bundle with the 18-55 VR lens and the 70-300mm lens for just $899.
