Name: Staff Sgt. Peter Ising

Deployed Unit:
386th Air Expeditionary Wing

Duty Title: Public Affairs NCOIC of Broadcasting

Home unit/station: 4th Fighter Wing, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, N.C.

How do you support the mission here? As a Radio and Television Broadcaster, I use radio and television as powerful tools for telling and preserving the Air Force Story. It is my job to effectively represent the interests of the Air Force, as well as communicate our mission and activities to the American public.

Favorite movie: Wow, this is a tough one. How can I pick just one? I'd say Braveheart. Every time I was home from school sick; I'd watch it. I've watched it so many times I have it memorized from beginning to end. When my friends and I hang out they make me recite Mel Gibson's speech from before his battle with England.

Favorite restaurant: My favorite restaurant is called the White Manna. It's in Jersey City, NJ. It is a small 24 hour burger joint that has been in the same place since the 1939 world's fair. My father has been taking me there since I was a kid. Every time I go back home and visit my old man, he insists on waking me up at 0300 and says to me "You wanna make a run?" So we hop in the car and head to the White Manna. They have the best burger, hands down.

Favorite superhero: The man that stands for truth, justice and the American way, SUPERMAN! He is the original and best superhero. When I was a kid I loved watching the original movie with Christopher Reeve. Still to this day, I sometimes tuck a towel into the back of my shirt and pretend to be the man of steel. I kind of wish I didn't tell you that.

Place you would most like to vacation to or visit: I am dying to go to the UK or Australia! I have made a few friends from there and they are just awesome people.

Favorite actor/actress:
Jack Nicholson is by far my favorite. He has played in A Few Good Men, Batman, The Shinning, One Flew over the Cuckoo's nest, and The Departed. I can go on for days about all the movies he has been brilliant in. "You Can't Handle the Truth!"

Favorite food:
Well growing up, my mom wasn't a very good cook (sorry Ma.) And being an Italian, from New Jersey, I'd have to say pizza. I can eat it every day, for every meal. However, it does create a little bit of an issue as far as my PT goes. Unfortunately, now I can only have it on my cheat day.

Favorite musical group/musician/singer: The greatest rock band of all time of course, AC/DC! Ever since the first time I heard Angus Young's opening riff from "Shook Me All Night Long" I have been hooked. I also love the fact they are all about 60 years old and they are still out touring, and stay true to their incredible sound. Just listening to AC/DC I myself have become quite the air guitarist.

How many times have you deployed and what makes this deployment unique? This is my first deployment. I was a part of the United States Air Force Honor Guard for my first enlistment so I wasn't deployable. Now that I have become a part of the operational Air Force it feels good to contribute to the mission. This deployment thus far has been a learning experience I have thoroughly enjoyed.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? It isn't very different as far as what I do day to day. However I'd say the video news stories I create definitely reach a wider audience being in the AOR. I can't count how many times since I have been here I have had people come up to me and tell me they enjoyed a news story or a feature I made. And that's refreshing to hear. Also, back home a lot of the stories I create are mostly of people training to do the mission. Here at the Rock it's nice to get shots of the mission actually taking place.
