Steve Cooper was offered a new contract during the summer but a failure to sign it saw some of the hierarchy grow disgruntled.

Some of the board felt that questions were being raised over Cooper’s long-term commitment to the club.

The 42-year-old was appointed as the Forest head coach on a two-year deal in October 2021.

At the time, Forest were rock bottom of the Championship but Cooper came in and led the team to promotion.

Cooper remained coy throughout the summer over a new deal.

Evangelos Marinakis did declare shortly after the Wembley win that they wanted the boss to stay and that talks would start over a new deal.

It appeared as though everything was going swimmingly well but a poor start has dampened things.

Now, it’s been suggested by the Daily Mail that certain figures in the hierarchy questioned whether Cooper was really committed.

It’s hard to imagine that he’s not.

The ex-England youth head coach always speaks about how proud he is to work for Forest and he will be so determined to rescue the team’s form.

Cooper contract situation saw some of the hierarchy grow disgruntled

This snippet from the Daily Mail doesn’t really make a great deal of sense.

Cooper has always seemed keen to sign a new deal and it is perhaps somewhat mysterious that nothing has been signed.

With a busy summer of transfer activity, perhaps the boss simply wanted to prioritise that.

Now, although the team is in poor form, there really is no better option to revive the team.

Cooper should have loads of credit in the bank and withdrawing the offer of a new deal is extremely sad.

Forest’s board could win over some of their cynics by handing the Welshman a new deal.

It would send a clear message that the club aren’t interested in any other manager and it would delight many of the players who signed for him in the summer.
