Serving > Language Bundles

Use the Serving > Language Bundles page to:

A language bundle is a collection of resource files that the Google Search Appliance uses for query expansion and spelling in several languages. The Google Search Appliance provides a built-in language bundle for the following languages:

  • English
  • Portuguese
  • French
  • Italian
  • German
  • Spanish
  • Dutch

Google occasionally provides new language bundles that you can install on a search appliance. These language bundles offer support for query expansion and spelling for different sets of languages. Language bundles are designed to work with specific Google Search Appliance models, based on memory requirements.

You can install multiple language bundles on a Google Search Appliance, but only one language bundle can be active at any time. The currently active language bundle provides query expansion and spelling support for the languages in the bundle. By default, the built-in language bundle is active.

You cannot delete the currently active language bundle. However, you can delete any other inactive language bundle that you no longer need.

Installing a Language Bundle

You can install a language bundle either from a URL or your local disk.

To install a language bundle from a URL:

  1. Enter the URL in Install language bundle from URL.
  2. Click Install Language Bundle Now.

To install a language bundle from disk:

  1. Click Browse to navigate to the language bundle.
  2. Select the language bundle.
  3. Click Install Language Bundle Now.

Enabling a Language Bundle as Active

You can enable any installed language bundle to be the currently active bundle.

To enable a language bundle as the currently active bundle, click the Enable link next to the name in the list of language bundles.

Deleting a Language Bundle

You can delete any installed language bundle that is not currently active.

To delete a language bundle, click the Delete link next to the name in the list of language bundles.

Related Task

Google also provides synonym (stem) files for use with Query Expansion in multiple languages. You can enable or disable these synonym files individually. You can also configure query expansion by creating one or more custom synonyms files and uploading them to the search appliance.

To enable or disable a synonym file or upload a custom query expansion synonym file, use the Serving > Query Settings page.
