System Status
The Administration > System Status page provides information on the current condition of the search appliance hardware, including how much disk space is available, component temperature, and processor status. The System Status page is available both from the Home page and
through a link under Administration.
RAID Status
The appliance contains a redundant array of independent disks (RAID) and uses messages to report on the status of the disks.
- If the status message reads OK and the indicator is green, the RAID status is normal.
- If the status message reads Caution and the indicator is yellow, one or more RAID
arrays are rebuilding. However, the appliance is functioning normally. It is not necessary to report this status.
- If the status message reads Warning and the indicator is green, the RAID status is good. There are some minor recoverable errors. Contact google Enterprise Technical Support
for assistance with fixing the errors.
- If the status message reads Warning and the indicator is red, notify Google Enterprise Technical Support. Include the exact error text displayed in the warning in your message.
If the Status Indicator is Red
When the RAID status indicator is red, Google Enterprise Technical Support must typically log in directly to your Google Search Appliance. The exceptions are listed in the
Contact Support column of the table below. Review the table and find the RAID error message displayed on the System
Status page. The last column tells you whether you need to contact Google Enterprise Technical Support.

Additional Information |
Contact Support? |
Red |
[machine] missing [n] array(s) |
All three of the search appliance disk arrays are not working. |
YES - if TWO or more arrays are missing. |
Red |
[machine] missing [n] drive(s) |
Two or more of the drives are missing. |
YES - if TWO or more drives are missing |
Red |
[machine] has [n] extra drive(s) |
|
YES |
Red |
[machine] array[i] INITIALIZING |
May be triggered by power failure or
powering down improperly. Possible performance penalty while
happening; search appliance functionality typically is not otherwise affected. Returns to
green/OK on its own when the search appliance finishes the initialization process. |
NO - fixes itself. |
Red |
[machine] array[i] DEGRADED |
|
YES |

Red |
[machine] drive[i] NO UNIT |
This is not critical if this message is in
combination with "missing 1 array." |

[machine] drive[i] {other message} |
Other messages are possible. |

Red |
Some good drives are in an unconfigured state. |
More than one drive is in an unconfigured state. |
YES |
Yellow |
[machine] array[i] REBUILDING |
An array is in the process of rebuilding.
This indicator returns to green when the process is
complete. |
NO - fixes itself. |
Yellow |
drive[i] Unconfigured(good), one drive down |
This error is issue 884419 and indicates that the hot spare disk dropped from the RAID configuration.
In this condition, the search appliance has enough disks in the RAID and continues to function at 100% capacity. |
YES - this issue can usually be fixed via remote access. |
In addition, you might see an error stating that a good drive in the array is in an unconfigured state, but the indicator lights do not change color. Contact Google Support if you see this error.
If you determine that you need to contact Google Enterprise Technical Support, read Remote Access for Technical Support on the Google Search Appliance help center and follow the instructions in that document for enabling remote access.
Machine Status
This status indicator applies only to model GB-8008. It does not apply to the GB-1001. "Machine" refers to the number of machines in the cluster that are having problems.
- If the status message reads OK and the indicator is green, the machine status is normal.
- If the status message reads Caution and the indicator is yellow, at least one machine in the cluster is experiencing a problem and may be offline. You should check the machine with the listed GID.
- If the status message reads Warning and the indicator is red, notify Google Enterprise Technical Support.
Disk Status
Disk status refers to the capacity of the search appliance disk drives. If the
drives are full, search appliance performance is affected.
- If the status message reads OK and the indicator is green, the disk status is normal.
- If the status message reads Caution and the indicator is yellow, the drives are approximately half full. No action is needed.
- If the status message reads Warning and the indicator is red, notify
Google Enterprise Technical Support.
Temperature Status
Temperature refers to the CPU temperature and the speed of the cooling fans
inside the search appliance.
- If the status message reads OK and the indicator is green, the CPU temperature is normal.
- If the status message reads Caution and the indicator is yellow, the CPU
temperature is higher than normal or the speed of the
cooling fans is lower than normal or both. However, the CPU temperature
and fan speeds are at or within standard operating levels. The
appliance is able to operate at these levels without any
increased risk of failure. Examine the physical environment of the search appliance for problems such as airflow blockage or air conditioning malfunction. It is not necessary to
report this status.
- If the status message reads Warning and the indicator is red, notify Google Enterprise Technical Support.
System Logs and Diagnostic Output
If there is a hardware problem with the search appliance, the Administration > System Status page displays the following information:
- System Event Logs
- Disk Diagnostics Output
If this information appears, notify Google Enterprise Support and provide the information available there.
